Extended Day Program
We offer Extended Day twice a week, on Monday and Thursday.
Children enjoy this extra time at Nutfield to:
- meet new friends and play with old friends
- learn how to eat lunch at school on their own like they will in first grade, and
- generally have the opportunity to spend a full day at school.
Parents also seem to enjoy this time, and often use it to get a little work done, run errands or go to appointments, shop, socialize, or just plain rest.
An Extended Learning Opportunity
Our Extended Day is not a passive child care situation but rather a non-class time for Nutfield to continue helping your child to grow. The schedule of activities during a typical Extended Day session includes:
- eating lunch
- playing in the class, using a variety of materials selected by the staff
- going out to play for long periods of time on our wonderful playground, or often taking walks in the area
- coming in from outside and having a snack
- after snack possibly going back outside, reading or telling stories, dancing, or doing puppet shows.
In inclement weather we take advantage of the school's gym space to make sure the children still get plenty of exercise.
Who May Participate
This unstructured program is for any student who attends Nutfield. It runs from 11:30 am - 4:00 pm, and students may be picked up at any time up until 4 pm. A maximum of 20 children may attend each session.
Costs and Registration
The program is staffed by two Nutfield staff members and a volunteer. Each child brings lunch, and we provide an afternoon snack.
The cost of this program is $18 for morning students coming for the whole afternoon.
Students who are in the afternoon classes may come to Extended Day at 11:30, eat lunch, participate, and at 12:45 we bring them to their class. We pick them up after their class, and bring them to the Extended Day room where their parents may pick them up at 4:00. The cost for these afternoon students is $9.
Registration forms for Extended Day go home with the children three times a year. Parents who sign up and pay in advance are guaranteed a space. If there are openings still available, families may sign up on a first-come first-served basis, until we reach 20 children.
